Daniel Barclay asks: (2011-03-19 23:36:10)
Does Robi work with the latest ipod nano - 6th generation touch screen?
Nigel says:
Yes.
natalie asks: (2010-04-05 22:49:58)
hi, i find that the robi uses the battery up very quickly, i wonder if there is such thing as a splitter that a can plug the charger into and the robi, then the other end of the spliter would plug in to my ipod so i can charge and listen at the same time
Nigel says:
Not that I know of I'm afraid, maybe worth contacting Apple?
Lesley asks: (2009-12-09 19:25:33)
I have a new ipod shuffle and a belkin dock adapter, will this work with the robi as it gives it the correct connection?
Chris says:
As far as we are aware, the Belkin adaptor only connects the charging power and audio connections of the iPod, so it would not enable you to use the controls of the Robi. It is possible that the Belkin device does not have the power connections to allow the Robi to use the iPod battery as the power source, so it may not work at all.
Daniel Stephens asks: (2009-10-13 13:50:52)
Does this work with an 80gb iPod classic?
Nigel says:
Roberts have confirmed the Robi does operate with the Classic.
Keith Howell asks: (2009-02-15 21:06:40)
I have found a supplier of ipod dock connector (female) recepticles. If I buy 2 and wire them back to back so that I can plug my Robi into one and my logitech dock speakers into the other to get power to the Robi, can I use a standard sterio jack from the Robi earphone socket to the Logitech speakers? How long would the lead need to be to make a decent aerial? Which of the pinouts would be needed on the dockiing recepticles to make it work, just power and return or are there more?
Chris says:
The Robi is not designed to be used in this way, doing so may cause damage to the Robi and will void the warranty.
Keith Howell asks: (2009-01-22 18:15:02)
Does anyone supply a male to male ipod adaptor. That way, surely an Robi could be powered and plugged into a speaker dock with the audio signal taken via a 3.5mmm stereo jack cable I assume it would have to be long enough to pick up the aerial signal.
Chris says:
The Robi uses the headphones as an aerial, however it does need to be connected to an iPod to function correctly.
Keith Howell asks: (2009-01-10 13:45:14)
Is it possible to get an adaptor to enable me to plug my robi into my Logtech speaker dock to get power. I could then take a 3.5" jack lead & plug it from the robi to the speaker aux. input. I imagine the robi has the same problem with all doc.s . If it existed, would a simple male to male ipod connector should solve the problem. There might be an issue regarding length of cable to provide a suitable arial

julia asks: (2008-12-25 22:17:08)
Hi I have just got a robi for christmas and have a month old 120gb ipod. It works well except...it switches itself and the ipod off after a few minutes. Is there a fix for this?
Nigel says:
You are best contacting Roberts Directly, the phone number is available on at www.robertsradio.co.uk.
Dev asks: (2008-11-06 11:52:16)
Is Robi compatible with 1st generation nano?
Chris says:
It has not been officially tested with all models of iPod, but should work with all iPods with a dock connection.
Chris Ong asks: (2008-08-26 16:08:19)
Q1. Do you ship to country like Singapore?
Q2 Can the Robi work with the iphone 3G?
Chris says:
We can ship almost anywhere, however some countries are very expensive to ship to. It may be cheaper for you to arrange a courier to collect the item from us. Yo could use a Fed-Ex account if you have one, for example.
As far as we are aware, the Robi can be used with any current iPod or iPhone, however Roberts are still testing with the latest models - so functionality is not guaranteed.
Mark asks: (2008-07-18 20:58:11)
The Robi works great with my iPhone 3G except that the phone's screen keeps switching itself on every 30 seconds or so. Is this a known issue and if so is there anything I can do about it?
Chris says:
The Robi was not originally designed to work with the iPhone, however we have not had any other report of problems.
Roberts may know more about compatibility, as it is their product. Their contact info should be on the back of the user guide.
Trayleigh asks: (2008-04-08 12:33:49)
Does the Robi work with the Ipod Touch? sorry I dont understand the generations
Chris says:
The iPod Touch is part of the 5th gneration of apple iPod.
According to Martin in a previous answer, the Robi should now be Ok with the iPod touch apart from a few minor issues, see his post for full info. We have not confirmed this ourselves.
martin asks: (2008-04-02 20:39:42)
The robi should now work with the nano (2nd gen) and ipod ( 5th gen) including touch and iphone there are a few things including not being able to turn off the back light a few problems have been fixed in the latest update including the one where the ipod turns off after 2 mins.
Chris says:
Thanks for the info, Martin.
Mark Davies asks: (2008-04-01 13:47:43)
Does the Robi work with the iPhone? I suspect answer may be same as for ipod touch? Thanks. Mark
Chris says:
The Robi was not originally designed to work with the iPhone, which was not available when this radio was designed, however it may be worth contacting Roberts, who have the latest information about their current compatibility testing and updates.
Richard Jones asks: (2008-02-28 23:14:11)
With my ipod classic 160, the radio (fm & dab) powers off after a couple of minutes play, along with the ipod. How do I stop this happening? This doesn't happen using the remote function. Is the robi compatible with the latest ipods? Thanks.
Chris says:
The latest apple software update for the iPod (all versions) appears to have caused a problem when used with a Robi. Roberts and apple are looking into the problem. Using an earlier version of the software should correct the issue.
Scott asks: (2008-02-25 13:52:19)
I've just bought a Robi and its great... I get all the BBC DAB channels and Talksport among others.
But... it does use a little more power and the battery runs out a little sooner than without using it.
Is there a device that allows me to mains-charge the iPod and plug in the ROBI as well?
This way I could listen in work without having to recharge every few hours.
(My mobile allows this, the charger has an input for the headphones on the bottom).
Thanks.
Chris says:
I don't think there is. An earphone connection throughput (which is not actually being used by the charger) on a mobile phone is quite different to a connection where some of the pins are used by both devices.
The Robi has it's own earphone amp and volume control, so you don't need the iPod's volume at all when listening using the Robi. Turning the volume on your iPod right down will conserve a small amount power and make it last a little longer.
Ashley asks: (2008-02-15 09:36:18)
I have an old Ipod shuffle (THe long thin one). Will this be compatible with the Roberts Robi.
Thanks
Chris says:
The iPod shuffle (old or new) does not have a dock connector, which is required to power and operate the Roberts Robi.
Gregg asks: (2008-02-14 13:28:48)
Possibly a daft question - I understand that the headphones form part of the aerial but is there an issue if you use headphones other than those supplied with the Robi?
Chris says:
It is a common question with this type of radio. The radio uses the ground cable in the earphones as an aerial, so most earphones will work without any problem. The reception depends on the construction of the earphone cable, so some sets may be better than others.

TOM PEPPER asks: (2007-12-12 22:46:50)
SORRY TO HAVE TO ASK THIS BUT WHERE IS THE DOCK CONNECTOR ON THE NEW IPOD NANO? MY WIFE HAS ONE AND SHE'S CONSIDERING ADDING A ROBI BUT WE'RE NOT SURE OF THE SET-UP.
Chris says:
I have no idea, try Apple, or an authorised retailer who sells the iPod.
It is likely to be on the bottom.
Chris Rayner asks: (2007-12-12 16:15:12)
I didn't see it on the list but will I be able to get Talk Sport & Five Live?
Chris says:
That would depend on whether they are broadcast on DAB in your area.
John driscoll asks: (2007-12-10 17:03:20)
Is the robi compatable with the iPoD Touch
Chris says:
The Robi has not yet officially been certified compatible with the iPod touch, however, many reviewers have tried it and have not encountered any problems.
maggie cullinane asks: (2007-12-04 21:48:08)
Thinking of getting one of these for my husband for Xmas. Will it work with his three year old iPod Shuffle. Don't want to ask him too many technical questions about it for obvious reasons. Thanks
Chris says:
It won't work with an iPod shuffle, as this model does not have the required dock connector.
asks: (2007-12-04 10:43:07)
I have a Sony walkman nw-a1000, is there a robi or similar device that is compatible? Thanks, Mia
Chris says:
The Roberts Robi is a unique device at the moment. It is powered using the iPod dock connector, so it would not be suitable for use with any other type of player.
Rosemary Burnett asks: (2007-12-02 16:40:45)
can you record radio programs from Robi onto the ipod?
Nigel says:
No there are no recording facilities.
penny asks: (2007-12-01 23:41:19)
Does it have a clip on the back to attach to clothing, as i use my ipod when running holding it...but don't want to have to hold 2 things?
Nigel says:
Yes.
Paul asks: (2007-11-28 13:38:26)
Does this work with an Ipod Shuffle (not the new current model)?
Nigel says:
The robi connects to any iPod which has the standard iPod connection terminal.

Andy asks: (2007-11-26 12:52:37)
Just recieved my Robi, thanks: however, as it's a Xmas gift, I can't test it.
Thus, to allay my panic, can you confirm that it will work with any iPod since they all have a docking point (the packaging specifically says "Nano 2nd generation" and I fear the recipient of the gift's is 1st generation).
Chris says:
The models shown on the packaging have been tested by Roberts.
There should be no issue with using previous iPod models, provided they use the dock connector (some early models had a firewire interface) though Roberts are currently testing with other models.
If you find out it does not work, you may return it as an unwanted gift, under our Christmas returns policy.

Martyn Preece asks: (2007-11-26 12:03:19)
I'm not too clued up on DAB and so it may sound a stupid question but as I live in Portugal, will 'robi' just pick up digital and FM stations relevent to my location over here ?
Chris says:
FM reception for your area should be OK. You would need to confirm if there are any band III DAB signals broadcast in your area.
Nigel says:
You will need to check if your area receives a DAB Signal, I don't think Portugal has DAB yet.
Janet Beith asks: (2007-11-25 18:55:59)
Can you tell me if the Robi is compatable with ANY MP3 player or only an iPod? Thanks
Chris says:
The Robi takes it's power from the iPod dock connector, so you would need to use a player with an iPod dock connector (eg. an iPod). No other players have been tested.
Elizabeth Cook asks: (2007-11-15 10:51:20)
Hello there - I have a Logic 3 Docking Station/Speakers for my iPod. Will I be able to connect the radio to my iPod and still listen through the speaker system? Or can I only listen to the radio through the headphones? Thanks!
Nigel says:
The Robi connects to the iPod connection so you cannot have it sat on your normal docking station. You could however connect a line in cable from your headphone socket to a line in socket if you have one on your station.
Richard asks: (2007-11-11 09:22:01)
I use my ipod in the gym and in the docking station at home. a) will it be Ok in the gym on the move? b) is there anyway (given the fact that the Robi attaches to the base of the ipod) I can play it through the docking station at home? Thanks and btw potentially a brilliant product- well done for launching it!
Nigel says:
You can use a line in cable if you have a line input on your docking station. The Robi has not been tested yet for reception so I cannot say if the reception is up to scratch.

mike asks: (2007-11-10 21:52:22)
can you use your own headphones with the robi? It looks in the picture like the ones supplied are attached.
Nigel says:
You can use your own. The cable on the right is the connection to the iPod.
andy asks: (2007-11-10 19:16:44)
Interested in the Roberts Robi. Do you know if the earphone connection is a jack socket which can be used to connect to an aux input in the car? Would the connecting wire act as the arial?
Many thanks.
Nigel says:
In theory yes. This has not been tested and keep your eyes out for the Pure Highway, a specifically designed in car DAB Adaptor.
Ann asks: (2007-11-10 15:46:24)
can this just be used as a dab radio or do you have to have a i pod for it to work?
Chris says:
The Robi is powered from the iPod battery, and uses some of it's features, so you would need a compatible device to connect it to.
Alex asks: (2007-11-07 09:35:13)
How is the reception on the robi? I understand that DAB radios that use the headphone cable as an aerial suffer from dropout. Tossing up betwen one of these & a new ipod classic, and an iriver B20. Opinions??
Thanks!
Chris says:
UPDATE: We have had a chance to test one and can confirm that reception on the Robi is at least as good as other pocket-sized DAB radios, using both the supplied headphones and our own.
Chris says:
Generally, for the same length of cable, a fixed aerial will give better reception than a headphone aerial, due to the movement and the cable not always being particularly straight. One thing to bear in mind is that the IRiver B20 has a relatively short aerial, so this may impact slightly on the reception.
It will depend on the way yo use the product as to which would be more suited to you.

rob asks: (2007-11-05 22:54:40)
Hi, if the 'Robi' is powered by the iPod, is this going to create an extra strain on the iPods battery. Also where on the iPod does the Robi plug plug into, please. Thanks Rob
Chris says:
The Robi connects to the iPod dock connector. It does use a small amount of power whilst active, and as with any add-on device for your iPod, it will mean a single charge will not last quite as long.
A. Wise asks: (2007-11-05 18:28:20)
Is the product compatable with third generation iPod nano's?
Chris says:
The Robi will work with any iPod using the dock connector. This is a new product, so I don't see any reason for it to have any problem with any current version of iPod.
